More Than Just a Ride: How the Gentleman’s Ride is Saving Lives One Mile at a Time

Sunday 6th Apr 2025

Each year, when we suit up, polish our bikes, and gather for the Amstedam Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, it feels like more than just an event—it feels like family. A stylish, roaring, heartfelt family with one mission: to ride for men’s health.

Why We Ride

We all have our reasons. Maybe it’s for a father who beat prostate cancer, a friend we lost too soon to suicide, or even for ourselves—because we know what it feels like to face mental health battles in silence. We’ve seen how simply showing up—dressed in tweed, riding vintage bikes—can spark conversations that men might otherwise never have.
That’s the beauty of the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride. It starts with the spectacle, but it goes so much deeper.

Prostate Cancer & Mental Health: Talking About the Tough Stuff

Let’s be honest—men aren’t always the best at talking about health, especially when it comes to things like prostate exams or depression. But here’s the truth: early detection of prostate cancer saves lives. Talking about mental health saves lives.

With DGR, we’re not just riding; we’re challenging a culture of silence. We’re helping men feel less alone, more seen, and more willing to ask for help. We’re reminding each other that strength isn’t about holding it all in—it’s about speaking up and showing up.

The Ride’s Global Impact (And Our Local One)

Globally, the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride funding life-saving research and programs through the Movember Foundation. That’s huge. But what we’re just as proud of is what we see:
New friendships formed on the ride.
Riders opening up about personal struggles over post-ride drinks.
Local businesses supporting the cause, not for publicity, but because they believe in it.

Every Euro raised and every kilometer ridden is a step toward a future where fewer men suffer in silence.

What Makes Our Ride Special

What really makes it special is the people. A tight-knit crew of passionate, kind-hearted riders. Some of us have been here from the start; others joined last year. But we all share the same goal: ride with purpose, look sharp doing it, and always support our fellow gents.

Gentlemen in Action

DGR isn’t about sitting on the sidelines. It’s about being proactive. Here’s what we encourage every member of our ride to do:
Get checked. Don’t put off your prostate exam. It’s quick, and it could save your life.
Check in. If a friend seems off, ask how they’re really doing. Listen without judgment.
Join us. Whether you ride a café racer or a Vespa, if you believe in the cause, you’re welcome.

Wrapping Up

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride reminds us that doing good can look good too. So here’s to the Amstrdam chapter—and to every chapter around the world. Let’s keep riding, keep talking, and keep being there for one another. Because behind every dapper suit is a man who matters. And together, we ride for him.

See you on the road, brothers.

I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Tuesday 25th Mar 2025 On Sunday the 18th of May 2025, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
