Lucky SevenTeam Thorpe Rides Again!

I am wishing you all a Happy Spring!  With Spring comes time to ride motorcycles again and the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride with the opportunity to raise money to help promote Men’s Prostrate awareness and mental health via the DGR ride and the Movember foundation.

2025 marks the 5^th year I have participated and with all of your most generous support and donations, encouragement and wiliness to step up, we have raised over $10,000!  That is amazing, really.  Each year that I set out, it seems I have new and related experiences in why these things are particularly important to me, and this year is no different.

 

As many of you know, we are named Lucky SevenTeam Thorpe, because today, April 9^th 2025 marks 17 years of sobriety.  Really, none of this would be possible if this were not the case, I am so grateful for all of your support in this most important endeavor.  Life, love, happiness and health and just being able to be a productive member of society all made possible by recovery.

 

While Karen and I have not yet officially tied the knot, we do have a date now, with a big Party we are trying to get planned for Saturday December 13^th, 2025.

 

Continuing on the theme of wellness and taking care of myself, this past December I made the very difficult decision to undergo some major abdominal surgery. As you may know, I have Crohn’s / Colitis and 20 years ago I had my entire colon removed and subsequently lived with an internal J pouch or Parks pouch. For the last 3 years, this internal solution was no longer working and was causing much anxiety, physical and mental dis-ease. Last year, While last year Karen and I rode in the DGR, I was in so much discomfort that I rode only a couple of times other than that. Ask Brian, he’ll tell you. With the loving support of Karen, my family and friends, I underwent this complicated surgery, extended hospital stays, complications so that only now, 3 months later am I grateful that I did it. I now have the capacity to be even more present in my daily life, love and work.

 

I know that many of you suffer from health related issues, mental and physical, and that I am not unique.  I too want to recognize that we lost a member of Lucky SevenTeam Thorpe.  A former colleague from TPT, Kay, passed away at 85.  She, herself a cancer survivor (like many of you) was always eager to support a worth cause.

 

I wanted to also give you some insight into where our monies go. I know too that these are difficult times, with much financial uncertainty. Please give what you can, I have really enjoyed this process of connecting with you all in a meaningful way with your love, comments and financial support.

I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Saturday 22nd Mar 2025 On Sunday the 18th of May 2025, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
