How little is needed to make a massive difference?
Tuesday 23rd Apr 2024Yesterday was a beautiful 55 degree day here in Boston. Sunshine, the trees are getting foliage and the population is coming out of hibernation. It's just going to make a personal feel good.
Taking the Harleys out, we stopped at a Dunkin Donuts for a sugar and caffeine pop. Guy walks in with two little ones, around 7 or 8. He fidgets around in his pockets for the cash for a drink for each of the kids and says to them he doesn't need one, he will sip off theirs.
Leaning over I said to him to not worry, I'll pick up the tab and let him have a drink and the kids have a sandwich or donut. The guy says that during Covid he got sick and has been on a downward spiral since as he lost his job and hasn't been able to get new employment. In his emotion he's saying how mentally his been kicked that he struggles to find the motivation.
Anyway, we bought him a gift card that'll keep him and his kids in a weekly treat for the next year. My buddy also has contacts in the refuse industry of that town and this gents skills are in hydraulic equipment so hopefully we can get him into a new role soon.
Fact is, it takes such a little to listen to another and helping another overcome a mental challenge and see opportunity, few can understand the value.
So when we are out on our bikes, everyday we can be ambassadors for mens mental strength and health. I am proud to be associated with the DGR.
I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride
Tuesday 26th Mar 2024 On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives. My Sponsors
