My Cancer
Thursday 28th Mar 2024I was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer in Sepetember 2016. Metastatic means the cancer has grown outside of the original organ, so simple surgical removal is not possible. For those that know, stage IV, Gleason 9.
I was sent to a superb and caring urologist, Dr. Edward Eigner at Urology Associates in Denver. I can instantly recall his words, "Howard OUR goal is that you die WITH mPCa and not OF mPCA." Meaning I will outlive the cancer and die of an old-age malady—or get hit by a bus.
With Dr. Eigner and his staff of NPs, PA, RNs amd medical assitants I began five and a half years of treatment. ADT (androgen deprivation therapy) genetic tetsting (twice) immunotherpy (photo below) 29 rounds of and radiation. A total of five drugs in overlapping sequence as they became more appropriate. We were agressive.
With undetectable PSA for months, a PSMA PET scan showing no evidence of recurring disease I began an Rx holiday in July 2022 and have been in remission since.
I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride
Thursday 28th Mar 2024 On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives. My Sponsors
