Bike Therapy

Took a ride up to Perthshire yesterday to show my best mate's dad as a surprise. He was just home having spent 2 weeks in hospital. 

His face lit up when he saw it and sparked memories of the bike he rode in his youth. A keen eye for detail he spotted many features and had a wee twist of the throttle. "If only I was 40 years younger...", he said.

Much like "therapy" animals, classic bikes can be great for rekindling memories and creating discussion amongst our older generation and enriching mental health.

I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

On Sunday the 18th of May 2025, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Edinburgh Ride with fellow men and women across the UK and around the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember.

In the UK, statistics show that on average 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. I am a member of a Curling Club where two of the 11 male members have been diagnosed; rather shortening the odds. So this year I will be riding partly in their name and would appreciate your support.

Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that.

So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
