Why I am Riding

Saturday 18th May 2024

Hi

As you may know I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer in 2020.  Fortunately it was diagnosed early after a chance visit to my doctor who gave me a physical examination and then referred me to specialists at The Royal Surrey.  I elected for a radical prostatectomy, which was carried out at the Nuffield in Guildford at the beginning of the first Covid lockdown.  I spent lockdown recovering from the operation.  On the last day of the third month I was cleared by my surgeon to ride Offroad in the Spanish Pyrenees scouting for new trails with Austin Vince.  The reason I went to the doctor in the first place was I got some very awkward sandfly bites that September.  By May, I was riding again albeit made possible by a concepts seat on my KTM 350 Freeride.

So I urge all you men folk to get regularly tested.  Two of my dearest friends are currently undergoing radio, hormone and imune therapy for cancer.  Get tested now and get to enjoy your later years on this planet.

I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Saturday 18th May 2024 On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
